“Instant torque!”…”Sealed drivetrain for water crossings!”…”No more MPG worries!”…”1,000 HP!!!”…”Watts to Freedom”…and the list of STUPID comments goes on about the latest publicity stunt from General Motors i the new HUMMER EV.
The HUMMER EV is the latest “shiny object” for people to chase and tout how great it is. IF all electric vehicles were THE answer, which they are NOT, why have they not taken over the road? I know, I have heard those fanboys of electric vehicles say that the break thru in battery technology to allow for electric vehicles to take over is “just around the corner…”
I have written about my take on an electric Jeeps previously, and you can link to that post here.
I find it laughable how many “sheeple” believe first in global warming, and secondly that electric vehicles could have any impact on the fallacy of global warming!!!
Prager University has produced the most succinct explanation of why electric vehicles are NOT “Green”.
IF electric vehicles were ultimately MORE efficient AND better for water crossings and instant torque, why didn’t HUMMER electrify their line up years ago and keep the brand alive?!?!?
The proverbial “horse” has left the barn on electric vehicles with every vehicle manufacturer scrambling to create and/or further develop their “electrification strategy”. With that said, I can understand why GM decided to whore out the HUMMER name plate and show off a $100,000+ toy that very few will be sold of, and have no affect towards a reduction in emissions that those proponents of electric vehicles believe in.
Why couldn’t GM REALLY make an INNOVATIVE electric HUMMER? The original H1/HUMMER was innovative, with geared hubs. The HUMMER EV does utilize the Tesla-like “skateboard” chassis design, they have what looks like an incredibly inefficient traditional 4WD drive train.
I can only imagine how much “precious” electric energy is lost via those impressive looking halfshafts!
Why didn’t GM utlize the hub motor technology from their partner, Lordstown Motors? Lordstown Motors is preparing to start production of the Endurance full-size all electric pick-up. The Endurance will be built at the old GM Lordstown, OH plant.
The Endurance utilizes the skateboard chassis design, however is propelled by an electric motor in each wheel.
Why didn’t GM utilize what appears to be a much more efficient wheel motor technology, reminicent of the geared hub in the original H1/HUMMER?
The geared hubs gave the H1/HUMMER great ground clearance for a fully-independent 4WD truck. If GM were to have utilized wheel motor technology, the fancy electronic suspension might be a little more capable!!!
I get it, we live in an age of chasing the latest technology trend to solve the false religion of “man-made global warming”. There will be the fan-boys of all electric vehicles, however the HUMMER EV is just a publicity stunt using an iconic American brand-name!!!
